11 dead in rebel shelling on Damascus: activists

On September 11, 2015, rebel rocket fire on the Syrian capital, Damascus, resulted in the deaths of 11 people, with at least 20 others injured. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the attack targeted the Duwaylaa neighborhood on the southeastern outskirts of the city, primarily affecting civilians. State news agency SANA confirmed four deaths and 25 injuries from the shelling.

Rebels, entrenched in strongholds around Damascus, frequently launch rockets into the capital, leading to numerous civilian casualties. The Syrian regime has retaliated with airstrikes on rebel-held areas, particularly in the Eastern Ghouta region, where hundreds have died in recent assaults.

The shelling coincided with an assault by Jaish Al Islam, an Islamist rebel group, on Adra prison near Damascus, highlighting the ongoing conflict that has claimed over 240,000 lives since it began in 2011.
