Newcastle vs Wolves Prediction: 15/1/2025

The reason being, Newcastle want to qualify for Europe this season and currently lie 5th in the Premier League, a point behind 4th place. Having had an indifferent start to the season, the Magpies have picked up momentum, found their groove, and started moving up the league table with some great displays. They have won five successive league games, beating Leicester 4-0, Ipswich 4-0, Aston Villa 3-0, Manchester United 2-0, and Tottenham 2-1. Last week they won 2-0 away to Arsenal in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final, hosting Bromley in the FA Cup last weekend.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton is having a tough season and sits in 17th position in the Premier League table, level on points with the first relegation position. A managerial change in mid-December helped the team temporarily out of the drop zone. With Vitor Pereira in charge, Wolves recorded wins against Leicester 3-0 and Manchester United 2-0 before earning a draw at Tottenham 2-2. However, they slipped up with a heavy 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last Monday. Wolves played Bristol City in the FA Cup last weekend.

Newcastle will be without first-choice goalkeeper Pope, forward Wilson, and backup defenders Lascelles and Krafth. Despite these absences, the team has in-form Alexander Isak, who has scored 13 goals and provided four assists this season, making him one of the best strikers in Europe. He is supported by wingers Murphy, with three goals and seven assists, and Gordon, who has five goals and five assists. Defensive leader Botman, who missed significant time due to injury, has recently returned to action.

Wolves, meanwhile, will be without key defenders Toti and Mosquera, long-term absentee midfielder Traoré, and backup attackers Kalajdzic and Gonzalez. Still, they welcome back their Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, who has ten goals and four assists this season, following his suspension. He will likely be paired with Strand Larsen, who has seven goals and two assists, but Wolves continue to show frailties at the back with the league’s worst defensive record this season. They signed a defender Agbadou from Reims to try to arrest that.

Prediction

Newcastle have been formidable at home, having won six of their last eight matches and are unbeaten in seven straight league games against Wolves, winning three of the last four. Meanwhile, Wolves have struggled on the road, having won just three of their last 19 Premier League away matches.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Wolves
