Video: Nasrallah Hails Pezeshkian’s Election Victory in Iran

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has extended his congratulations to Iran’s president-elect, Masoud Pezeshkian, highlighting Iran’s significant support for regional resistance groups.

In a letter shared on Hezbollah’s social media channels, Nasrallah praised Pezeshkian’s “blessed election” by the Iranian people.

“At Hezbollah, and among all the resistance groups in the region, we consistently regard the Islamic Republic of Iran as a robust, stable, and enduring supporter,” the letter stated.

Iran offers both financial and military assistance to Hezbollah, which was established with the help of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards after Israel’s invasion of Beirut in 1982 during Lebanon’s civil war.

Hezbollah is a central component of the so-called Axis of Resistance, an alliance of pro-Iran armed groups that oppose Israel and the United States. This alliance includes Palestinian militant group Hamas, Yemen’s Houthi rebels, and various fighters in Iraq.

Reformist candidate Pezeshkian, who supports better relations with the West, won the presidential runoff against ultraconservative Saeed Jalili, according to Iran’s interior ministry on Saturday.

This election occurred amidst heightened regional tensions due to the Gaza conflict, disputes over Iran’s nuclear program, and internal dissatisfaction with Iran’s economy, strained by sanctions.

The election was prompted by the death of ultraconservative president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash, with the next presidential election initially scheduled for 2025.

Since the day after Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, which ignited the Gaza conflict, Hezbollah has engaged in regular cross-border exchanges with the Israeli army in solidarity with Hamas.

Hezbollah is the only Lebanese faction that maintained its heavy weaponry after the country’s civil war from 1975 to 1990. Its members have also actively participated in Syria’s civil war in support of President Bashar al-Assad, who also congratulated Iran’s president-elect on Saturday.
