Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah declared on Wednesday that his group’s fighters would destroy any Israeli army tanks that invade Lebanon in any future conflict.
Responding to the Israeli army’s admission of a tank shortage due to the war in Gaza and clashes with Hezbollah, Nasrallah stated, “If your tanks come to Lebanon and its south, you will no longer have a tank shortage because you will no longer have tanks.”
Addressing Israel’s attacks on civilians in southern Lebanon, Nasrallah warned, “If you continue to target civilians, the resistance will target settlements that have not been hit until now.”
Nasrallah delivered these remarks during a televised speech on the last day of the Ashoura commemorations.
“Our front in Lebanon will remain active as long as aggression continues against Gaza and its people,” he emphasized.
Refuting media reports about an agreement regarding the Lebanese front, Nasrallah said, “Rumors of a ready agreement are incorrect. The future situation in the south will depend on the outcome of the ongoing battle, in which the resistance and its supporters will prevail.”
He added that if a ceasefire occurs, the Lebanese state, not Hezbollah, would handle negotiations.
“We will rebuild our frontline villages to be more beautiful than before,” Nasrallah pledged.
Since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, Hezbollah has been exchanging nearly daily fire with Israeli forces in support of Hamas. The resulting cross-border violence in Lebanon has claimed 511 lives, mostly fighters but also at least 104 civilians, according to AFP.
On the Israeli side, 17 soldiers and 13 civilians have died, according to official reports.
This violence, primarily confined to the border area, has heightened fears of a full-scale conflict between the adversaries, reminiscent of their last war in the summer of 2006.
