Rafael Nadal Withdraws from US Open, Confirms Participation in Paris Olympics

Former world number one Rafael Nadal has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming US Open 2024, the year’s final Grand Slam event. Nadal’s last appearance was at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, where he exited without winning a medal. This decision aligns with his strategy to carefully select his tournaments as he approaches what are likely his final seasons as a professional tennis player.

In a post on his official X account, formerly known as Twitter, Nadal shared, “Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open, a place where I have amazing memories. I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time. Thanks to all my US fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of luck to all for the always amazing US Open! My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin.”

Nadal did not mention any specific injury concerns in his post. The 14-time French Open champion has been dealing with injury issues since 2022.

A four-time US Open champion, Nadal last participated in the event in 2021, where he faced a fourth-round exit. The Spanish superstar has only competed in two Grand Slam events over the past two years. Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, will be notably absent from this year’s US Open, which begins on August 26.

He will next focus on the Laver Cup in Berlin, scheduled from September 20-24.
