Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati remarked on Tuesday about the ongoing hardships Lebanon has faced for 74 days due to the war on Gaza and the continuous Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. These attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and widespread suffering, which Mikati described as the outcome of criminal and genocidal actions.
During a cabinet session at the Grand Serail, Mikati expressed his sorrow over the daily assaults experienced by the people in the south of Lebanon. He noted the destruction of villages, lands, and crops, emphasizing the severe impact of these attacks on the region.
Mikati commended the spirit of Lebanese solidarity, which, he believes, demonstrates the country’s strength and resilience. He highlighted that this resistance is manifested in various forms – through actions on the ground, political and national stances, and international advocacy. He pointed out that despite challenging circumstances, the parliament, government, security forces, and administration continue to stand firm.
Additionally, Mikati stressed the urgency of electing a new president and urged the parliament to keep legislating and the government to maintain its operations. He expressed hope that Lebanon would soon have a new leader at the helm.
