“Mikati Denounces Israel’s ‘Crime Against Humanity’ in Munich”

In a recent statement, Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to all United Nations resolutions and called on Israel to comply with these resolutions, cease its aggressive actions in southern Lebanon, respect Lebanese sovereignty, and withdraw from all occupied Lebanese territories.

During his address at the 60th Munich Security Conference, Mikati criticized Israel’s ongoing aggression and questioned the international community’s efforts to stop these actions. He highlighted the Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the deaths of 10 civilians, mostly women and children, in south Lebanon, labeling these acts as crimes against humanity. This violence is part of the ongoing exchanges of fire across the Lebanon-Israel border since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7.

The deadliest day in over four months of conflict saw the death of 10 civilians and five Hezbollah members, including a commander. The conflict has resulted in at least 268 deaths on the Lebanese side, including Hezbollah fighters and 40 civilians, as well as 10 Israeli soldiers and six civilians, based on available reports. The situation has also led to the displacement of thousands from both sides of the border, with Israel indicating potential military action against Hezbollah to ensure the return of its residents, amidst ongoing indirect negotiations for a political resolution.
