Mawlawi Urges Trust in Lebanese Security, Warns Against Strife

Caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi urged the Lebanese people to avoid drawing parallels between the murder of Pascal Sleiman and other incidents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining national security and exercising patience while the investigation is ongoing. Mawlawi assured that the investigation into Sleiman’s death is being conducted with professionalism and transparency.

During an emergency session of the Central Internal Security Council, Mawlawi spoke about the incident involving Pascal Sleiman, the Lebanese Forces’ Jbeil coordinator, who was killed by a Syrian gang involved in car theft. The gang transported Sleiman’s body and his stolen vehicle into Syria post-murder, and several gang members have been apprehended since.

Mawlawi called for calm and rationality among the Lebanese populace, highlighting the critical role of security services and the judicial system in uncovering the full details of the crime. He underscored the necessity of reducing the Syrian refugee population in Lebanon and instructed security forces to rigorously apply Lebanese laws to the Syrian displaced persons within the country.
