Champions League: Madrid and Atletico Fall, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Juventus Triumph

Real Madrid faced an unexpected defeat, losing 1-0 to Lille in the Champions League, marking their first loss in 36 matches. Despite Kylian Mbappe’s return, Real Madrid couldn’t overturn Jonathan David’s penalty, earned after Eduardo Camavinga’s handball. Lille held on for a notable victory, highlighted by goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier’s critical saves.

Aston Villa also celebrated a memorable night, defeating Bayern Munich 1-0 thanks to Jhon Duran’s stunning lob in the 79th minute, securing their second consecutive win in their first European competition appearance in over four decades.

Meanwhile, Liverpool continued their strong start under Arne Slot, defeating Bologna 2-0 at Anfield with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah. Slot has now won eight of his first nine games, a record start for a Liverpool manager.

In other matches, Juventus edged out RB Leipzig 3-2 in a dramatic game, despite being down to ten men. Dusan Vlahovic scored twice, and Francisco Conceicao clinched the win with a late goal. Atletico Madrid suffered a 4-0 defeat at Benfica, with goals from Kerem Aturkoglu, Angel Di Maria, Alexander Bah, and Orkun Kokcu.

Monaco managed a 2-2 draw with Dinamo Zagreb after coming back from two goals down, thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Dennis Zakaria. Girona lost 3-2 to Feyenoord, marking their second consecutive defeat, exacerbated by two own goals.

Atalanta easily overcame Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 with goals from Berat Djimsiti, Ademola Lookman, and Raoul Bellanova. Club Brugge secured their first points with a 1-0 win over Sturm Graz, thanks to Christos Tzolis’ goal.
