French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to visit Lebanon this Thursday, as reported by al-Akhbar newspaper on Friday. His visit is primarily to review the French contingent serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stationed in southern Lebanon.
Coinciding with the Christmas season, this visit holds significance for the French peacekeeping efforts in the region. During this time, a delegation of French political and security officials is also expected to meet with the leadership of UNIFIL. The focus of their discussion will be on exploring ways to implement a French proposal. This plan involves the creation of a buffer zone in the southern Litani area and aims to encourage Hezbollah to move north of the Litani River.
