Macron Calls for Ceasefire Respect, Urges Hezbollah to Foster Consensus

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on both Israel and Hezbollah to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. He stressed the importance of both parties fulfilling their commitments, stating that the ceasefire must be respected in the long term.

Macron emphasized the need for the international community to continue supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces, which play a central role in the agreement and in restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty. This support is in line with the discussions held during the conference in Paris on October 24.

Regarding Saudi Arabia, Macron acknowledged the kingdom’s contribution to Lebanon’s stability and its potential role in resolving the country’s political crisis. He highlighted the importance of discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, focusing on support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, the country’s reconstruction, and the political possibilities arising from the Lebanese parliament’s session on January 9. Macron expressed hope that this session would lead to the election of a new president, a crucial step for Lebanon’s future.

Macron urged all Lebanese political factions to work together towards a solution, specifically calling on Hezbollah to help facilitate consensus and promote national unity. He noted the urgency of speeding up the process now that the ceasefire is in place. He welcomed the Lebanese parliament’s planned session and emphasized the need for it to be conclusive, helping Lebanon resolve its institutional crisis.

Finally, Macron underscored the need for Lebanon to elect a president who can lead a national dialogue that addresses the needs of all Lebanese citizens. He also called for a functioning government and necessary reforms to restore international confidence and support Lebanon’s reconstruction and stabilization.
