The German airline Lufthansa has reinstated its flight services to and from Beirut, Lebanon, as of Friday. This follows a suspension that began on October 13 due to heightened tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Alongside Lufthansa, its affiliate airlines SWISS and Eurowings have also resumed their flight operations to Beirut. Additionally, Lufthansa announced its intention to restart flights to Tel Aviv, Israel, starting January 8. This decision comes after the airline had suspended its Tel Aviv service in early October, coinciding with the outbreak of hostilities with Hamas.
Upon resumption, Lufthansa plans to operate approximately 20 weekly flights to and from Tel Aviv, which is about 30% of its regular schedule for this route. The Lufthansa group had previously halted flights to Israel on October 9, in response to security concerns following an attack by Hamas militants on October 7.
This development was part of a broader trend, as other major airlines like British Airways, Air France-KLM, and Delta Air Lines from the U.S. also reduced their flight services to Tel Aviv following the attack.
Lufthansaโs statement emphasizes that the group is actively monitoring the security situation in Israel and maintains ongoing communication with both local and international authorities.
