Lohan, Rapp, and the cast of the new ‘Mean Girls’ movie made an appearance at the film’s premiere

Lindsay Lohan, famed for her role in the original 2004 “Mean Girls” film, attended the premiere of the new musical adaptation of the movie in New York on Monday night. Despite not being part of the new cast, Lohan joined writer Tina Fey — who was involved in both the original film, the Broadway adaptation, and this latest version — and Angourie Rice, the new Cady Heron, on the pink carpet.

Lohan expressed her excitement to The Associated Press about the new version, reflecting on her positive experience with the original movie and her anticipation for the updated adaptation. She mentioned feeling gratified about the original film’s lasting impact and was intrigued by the new film’s exploration of contemporary topics.

Angourie Rice, portraying the role Lohan made famous, shared her admiration for Lohan’s 2004 performance, aiming to contribute meaningfully to the legacy Lohan established.

The musical movie, like its 2004 predecessor, follows Cady’s adaptation to suburban high school life and her involvement with the elite group, the Plastics, now led by Reneé Rapp’s Regina George. Tina Fey described it as a modernized version featuring songs and new technology, yet the essential story remains relevant two decades later. Fey discussed the timeless nature of high school dynamics, particularly in the age of the internet, while Lohan saw the movie as an important reminder of ongoing teenage issues like cliques.

The premiere was a star-studded event, with appearances from actors Jon Hamm, Auli’i Cravalho, Busy Philipps, directors Samantha Jayne, Arturo Perez Jr., and producer Lorne Michaels. Celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion, who recently collaborated with Rapp, and Fey’s “30 Rock” co-star Jane Krakowski also attended.

Lohan, meanwhile, shared updates about her career, including starting a Netflix movie the following week, her involvement in “Irish Rose” set for release in March on Netflix, and another project scheduled for the summer.

When asked about her perspective on teenage experiences depicted in “Mean Girls,” especially now as a mother, Lohan humorously responded that her child is not yet a teenager and she wants to cherish every moment, describing motherhood as the greatest blessing.
