Liverpool’s Price Tag for Sporting’s Ruben Amorim Revealed After Alonso Snub

With Xabi Alonso recently quashing rumors of a summer move to Liverpool, attention has now turned to Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim as a potential managerial candidate for the Reds. The Telegraph has reported that to secure Amorim’s services, Liverpool would need to activate his release clause.

This clause allows for Amorim’s departure for around $16 million this upcoming summer, a fee that decreases to $10.5 million the next year. Compared to the fees paid by other clubs for managers recently, such as Bayern Munich’s $32.4 million for Julian Nagelsmann and Chelsea’s $27 million for Graham Potter, Liverpool’s potential deal for Amorim could be seen as relatively cost-effective.

Liverpool had initially eyed Alonso as a successor to Jurgen Klopp, given Alonso’s historical ties and affinity with the club. However, Alonso, who is on the brink of leading Bayer Leverkusen to a Bundesliga championship and has ambitions of building on his current project in Germany, has decided to stay put.

In a statement, Alonso articulated his commitment to Leverkusen, emphasizing his decision to remain with the club after contemplation during a break. He expressed a desire to continue his development as a coach and contribute to the club’s and players’ growth, praising the supportive environment at Leverkusen.

Jurgen Klopp is set to leave Liverpool after a successful nine-year tenure, during which the club is still competing for titles, including the Europa League. Interestingly, there’s a potential scenario where Liverpool could face Alonso’s Leverkusen in the Europa League final.
