Alisson Becker is set to make his return from injury for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against struggling Wolves, according to manager Arne Slot. The Brazilian goalkeeper missed the last two games, with Caoimhin Kelleher stepping in, but Slot confirmed that Alisson is likely to feature in Saturday’s game.
“He trained with the group yesterday for part of the session, and we’re expecting him to complete the full session today,” Slot mentioned during his pre-match press conference. “We believe he’ll be available, but of course, we still need to get through today’s training.”
While Slot expressed his satisfaction with Alisson’s return, he also praised Kelleher’s performances in the previous two matches. “We’re obviously pleased to have Alisson back, but I want to highlight that Caoimhin did a great job when he filled in, showing once again that we have strong options in several positions.”
Liverpool currently sits second in the Premier League table, just a point behind reigning champions Manchester City, with four wins from their first five games.
Reflecting on his early tenure since replacing Jurgen Klopp, Slot described the start as “good, but not perfect.”
“It’s been a positive start, with the only setback being the loss at home to Nottingham Forest,” he explained. “Losing a home game is always disappointing, especially when it’s not against a team competing for a top-four finish, though we can’t be certain what Nottingham Forest will achieve this season.”
Slot also commented on the continuity of the team’s playing style. “The way we play is still very similar to what everyone saw for the past nine years under Jurgen, which makes sense since most of the players are the same,” he said. “Keeping up the good results is important, but I also have to acknowledge that the fixture schedule has been favorable to us so far.”
