Lebanon’s efforts to tackle drug trafficking, especially to Gulf nations, have recently led to a significant seizure of narcotics intended for Kuwait. The country’s law enforcement agencies confiscated approximately 800 kilograms of drugs that were en route to Kuwait via the Netherlands. This update was provided in a statement from the office of Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, as reported by the National News Agency (NNA) of Lebanon.
The intercepted drugs were ingeniously hidden inside wooden figures, which were further enclosed in a bulletproof container. However, the statement did not detail the specific type of drugs that were seized. Additionally, an individual suspected of involvement in this drug smuggling operation has been apprehended.
This crackdown is part of a broader initiative involving heightened security collaboration between the interior ministries of Kuwait and Lebanon. Lebanon has been increasingly vigilant in curbing the production and smuggling of captagon, a stimulant drug, in response to criticism from conservative Gulf countries. The Middle East, particularly Syria and Lebanon, is known for producing most of the region’s captagon, which is primarily smuggled into the Gulf, its main market.
