Hezbollah targeted an Israeli military post near Yaroun overnight, prompting Israeli artillery to shell the outskirts of Alma al-Shaab and Ramia. Reconnaissance planes also fired flare bombs along the border.
Since the October 7 attack on southern Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, has engaged in near-daily cross-border fire with Israel.
Over the past seven months, at least 429 people have been killed in Lebanon, mostly militants but also including 82 civilians, according to an AFP tally. On the Israeli side, 14 soldiers and 11 civilians have been reported killed.
Despite the ongoing fatalities, both Hezbollah and Israel have managed to control the intensity and range of their strikes, aiming to prevent the conflict from escalating into a full-scale war between the two countries.
