Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is set to return to coaching, having reportedly agreed to a two-year contract to become the new manager of Turkish club Fenerbahçe. Mourinho, who was dismissed by AS Roma in January, will resume his managerial career after a five-month break. He will take over at Fenerbahçe, which finished second in the Turkish Süper Lig with a record 99 points.
**Mourinho’s Return to Management**
The two-time Champions League-winning coach will replace current boss İsmail Kartal, who is set to be released by the club. Fenerbahçe has not won the league title in a decade, and the club’s owners believe Mourinho is the right person to lead them back to success. Mourinho brings a wealth of experience, having won league titles in Spain, England, Italy, and Portugal.
Throughout his career, Mourinho has managed top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan, securing numerous titles. His stint at Tottenham Hotspur from 2019 to 2021 was his only tenure without a trophy.
Fenerbahçe aims to challenge the dominance of their arch-rivals Galatasaray, who recently won the Turkish league with 102 points, outpacing Fenerbahçe despite their impressive record of just one loss in the domestic season.
Reports indicate that Mourinho turned down offers from the Saudi Pro League to remain in Europe. He was not in discussions with any English clubs and was linked with the vacant position at Bayern Munich. However, following Vincent Kompany’s appointment at Bayern, Mourinho opted for the opportunity in Turkey.
The 61-year-old will now work with players like Fred, Dusan Tadic, Edin Dzeko, and other former Premier League stars at Fenerbahçe.
