James Maddison: Tottenham midfielder ruled out until January with ankle injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison is set to be sidelined until January due to an ankle injury, as confirmed by manager Ange Postecoglou. The 26-year-old midfielder, consequently, has had to withdraw from the England national team for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying matches in November.

Maddison suffered the injury during Tottenham’s 4-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea this Monday. Reflecting on the incident, Postecoglou mentioned, “A lot happened after Monday’s game. Maddison’s condition was more serious than initially thought. He was injured during the game and further examination the next day led to a scan.”

Additionally, Tottenham’s summer signing Micky van de Ven, formerly of Wolfsburg, is also expected to be out of action until the new year due to a hamstring injury incurred in the same game.

Tottenham faces further challenges as Brazilian forward Richarlison is recovering from a groin surgery earlier this month, though he is anticipated to return shortly after the international break.

The team will also be missing defenders Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie for their next Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers due to suspensions from red cards received in the Chelsea match.

On the international front, England is scheduled to play against Malta at Wembley on November 17, followed by a match in North Macedonia three days later. Maddison, who has five caps for England, was last seen as an unused substitute in the 3-1 win over Italy in October, a victory that ensured England’s place in Euro 2024 ahead of these qualifiers.
