Watch: Israeli Troops Shoot and Kill Pro-Palestinian US Activist in West Bank

The United States announced on Friday that it is urgently seeking more information regarding the death of a U.S. citizen in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where a Palestinian official reported she had been shot in the head.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller expressed deep condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones, stating, “We are urgently gathering more information about the circumstances of her death and will provide further details as we learn more.” Miller identified the victim as Aysenur Egzi Eygi, describing her death as “tragic,” without immediately attributing responsibility.

Turkey condemned what it called the “murder” of the pro-Palestinian U.S. activist, who also held Turkish citizenship, blaming Israeli soldiers for her death. The Turkish foreign ministry issued a statement expressing sorrow over Eygi’s killing by “Israeli occupation soldiers in the city of Nablus” and strongly denounced the act.

Eyewitnesses and Palestinian media reported that Eygi was shot by Israeli forces during a pro-Palestinian demonstration against settlement expansion in Beita, a town in the northern West Bank. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.

The protests in Beita, which frequently turn violent, focus on opposition to Israeli settlement expansion. Just a month earlier, American citizen Amado Sison was shot in the leg by Israeli forces while attempting to escape tear gas and live fire during a similar protest.

Dr. Ward Basalat, an emergency room doctor at the hospital where Eygi was taken, stated that she had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and tragically passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
