Israeli strikes in Gaza kill Hamas spokesman and family of six

Israeli airstrikes carried out overnight and into Thursday have resulted in multiple casualties across the Gaza Strip, including the death of a senior Hamas spokesperson and a family of six. According to Hamas officials, Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua was killed when a strike hit the tent where he was staying in the Jabaliya area in northern Gaza.

In a separate attack near Gaza City, emergency services reported that four children and their parents were killed. These latest casualties come as part of a new wave of Israeli strikes that began after the recent breakdown of a ceasefire agreement.

Israel has declared it will intensify its military campaign if Hamas does not meet its demands — which include the release of hostages, the group’s disarmament, and a full exit from Gaza. Hamas, in turn, has stated it will only consider releasing the remaining 59 hostages, of whom 24 are believed to still be alive, if Israel agrees to a permanent ceasefire and complete military withdrawal from the territory.
