The Amal Movement recently reported that two of its members, Ali Khalil Mohammad and Mustafa Abbas Daher, were fatally struck in an Israeli airstrike in Blida, a town near Lebanon’s southern border. This incident occurred as they were engaged in what was described as their national and jihadist responsibilities, defending Lebanon and its southern region.
Previously, on November 11, an Amal fighter was killed and two others injured in a drone strike by Israel in the same southern region.
Amal, an ally of Hezbollah, has not initiated any attacks against Israel since the onset of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel starting October 8. It is reported that Amal has adopted a defensive stance during these conflicts.
The hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have diminished recently, coinciding with reports that ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas are progressing.
On a related note, media sources on Saturday reported that Hezbollah launched an attack on a position in the Israeli-occupied Shebaa Farms. In response, the Israeli military targeted areas on the outskirts of Rashaya al-Fukhar and the border town of al-Dhayra. Hezbollah declared responsibility for two separate assaults on Israeli positions in Shebaa Farms and an additional strike on a structure in Avivim. The latter was stated to be a reprisal for attacks on civilian structures and an airstrike on a cooperative in al-Jibbain.
The ongoing cross-border conflict, which has lasted nearly four months, has resulted in over 210 deaths in Lebanon, predominantly among Hezbollah fighters, but also including over 25 civilians. On the Israeli side, casualties include nine soldiers and six civilians, as per Israeli authorities.
This conflict has also led to the displacement of thousands of residents on both sides of the border. Israel has issued a warning about its readiness to employ military force to ensure the return of its settlers to their homes.
