The Palestinian state news agency WAFA reported that at least 10 civilians lost their lives when Israeli artillery fire struck a school run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Al-Rimal area of Gaza City on Monday. According to WAFA, Israeli military vehicles encircled the school, with soldiers engaging in heavy shelling and gunfire.
This tragic event underscores that, despite the majority of military actions shifting towards the south near Khan Younis, the conflict persists across the Gaza Strip.
CNN has reached out to both UNRWA and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comments regarding the bombardment of the school in Gaza City.
Furthermore, WAFA reported that Israeli fighter jets launched attacks on at least five residential buildings in Al-Rimal, resulting in the deaths and injuries of numerous civilians.
Khader Zaanoun, an eyewitness and journalist in Al-Rimal, informed CNN on Monday that Israeli troops entered the neighborhood from various directions and are now encircling it, including the area around the Al-Shifa Hospital.
Zaanoun also reported the deaths of four paramedics after two ambulances were hit by Israeli aircraft in Gaza City. The ambulances were in the process of transporting casualties on Monday. According to Zaanoun, ambulances are facing significant challenges in maneuvering and functioning due to the artillery shelling and the blockade imposed by Israeli forces.
