Israeli aircraft conducted intense bombings on Sunday around the southern Lebanese border areas, specifically targeting the outskirts of Yaroun and Maroun al-Ras. Additionally, artillery shelling hit the outskirts of at least eight other Lebanese border towns.
In response, Hezbollah announced it had attacked the Jal al-Allam Israeli post near Naqoura using “appropriate weapons.”
On the previous day, Hezbollah had claimed responsibility for nine attacks, including one on an Israeli post near Metula. In retaliation, the Israeli military said it targeted a Hezbollah operational command center in Lebanon. During these clashes, the United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon reported that the tower of one of its bases along the Israel-Lebanon border was struck, though no injuries were reported.
The border region between Lebanon and Israel has witnessed increased hostilities since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, primarily involving exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah. This escalation has heightened concerns about the potential for a larger conflict.
Since October, over 120 people have died on the Lebanese side, the majority being Hezbollah fighters, but the toll also includes more than a dozen civilians, as per an AFP count.
