In a recent series of violent incidents, two Lebanese individuals lost their lives and several others were injured during an Israeli airstrike on a residence in Ainata, a town in southern Lebanon. This attack was followed hours later by another incident targeting journalists near the Lebanese border town of Yaroun, where an Al-Jazeera cameraman was slightly injured and vehicles were damaged.
Earlier, two Israelis were wounded in a Hezbollah assault on Netu’a. Additionally, an Israeli who had been injured near Dovev in northern Israel by an anti-tank missile strike on Sunday night succumbed to his injuries on Monday. Sunday witnessed a total of twenty-one Israelis getting wounded in two separate anti-tank guided missile strikes.
Journalists from various news outlets, including al-Mayadeen, MTV, al-Manar, al-Jadeed, and al-Jazeera, had gathered in Yaroun to report on the earlier strike. During their coverage, they were targeted twice by a drone, with the second missile strike being recorded live as an MTV journalist was reporting on the first attack.
These are not isolated incidents of targeting Lebanese journalists. Earlier in October, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon hit a group of journalists, resulting in the death of Reuters videographer Issam Abdallah and injuries to six others from Reuters, AFP, and al-Jazeera, despite them being clearly marked as press.
In a separate event, a team of seven journalists covering news near the Israeli al-Abad site outside Houla was attacked with Israeli machine gun fire, leading to one journalist’s death and another’s injury.
Last week, an Israeli airstrike tragically killed three young girls, aged 10, 12, and 14, along with their grandmother. They were traveling in a car between Ainata and Aitaroun at the time of the attack.
