Israeli Strike Near Sidon Leaves One Dead Amid Ongoing Tensions
Strike Hits Civilian Road in Southern Lebanon
Lebanon’s health ministry reported that an Israeli airstrike on Friday targeted a vehicle along the Sidon-Ghaziyeh road, killing one individual. The strike occurred near the southern coastal city of Sidon, an area that has seen recurring incidents despite a ceasefire agreement reached late last year.
According to the ministry’s statement, the assault marked the fourth consecutive day of Israeli operations in southern Lebanon. Israel maintains that its strikes are aimed at members of Hezbollah, whom it accuses of violating the truce.
Scene of the Attack and Wider Context
Eyewitnesses at the site described a powerful blast that engulfed a four-wheel-drive vehicle in flames, sending thick black smoke into the sky. Local firefighters quickly responded to extinguish the fire, while security forces cordoned off the area. Curious bystanders gathered near the wreckage, inspecting the scorched remains.
Although there was no official claim of responsibility at the time, the Israeli military has acknowledged similar attacks throughout the week, asserting they targeted Hezbollah operatives.
Despite the November 27 ceasefire agreement intended to end prolonged hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah—including two months of intense conflict—Israel has continued near-daily strikes on Lebanese territory. Hezbollah, weakened by the conflict, claims it remains committed to the ceasefire even as these cross-border operations continue.
