The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it had launched a significant assault on Hezbollah positions in Wadi Slouqi, a key area in southern Lebanon, not far from the border with Israel. This operation involved a combination of airstrikes and artillery barrages targeting numerous Hezbollah military sites and infrastructure.
Avichay Adraee, the Arabic-language spokesman for the Israeli army, shared via the X platform that the offensive was swift and focused on disabling Hezbollah’s combat capabilities. Adraee accused Hezbollah of utilizing the Wadi Slouqi region for hostile purposes, alleging that they had installed numerous terror-related assets and infrastructure in this challenging terrain to facilitate attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.
This event occurs against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities that began on October 7 between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which has led to frequent violent clashes along the Israel-Lebanon border involving Hezbollah militants and Israeli forces.
The continued violence since October 7 has resulted in significant casualties. According to reports, the conflict has caused the deaths of 190 people in Lebanon, including over 140 Hezbollah fighters and more than 20 civilians, with three journalists among them. In the northern regions of Israel, at least 15 people have perished, including nine soldiers, as reported by Israeli officials.
