An Israeli airstrike demolished a structure in the Baalbek district town of al-Nabi Sheet on Sunday morning. This attack followed another series of strikes in the Jabal Safi area in Iqlim al-Tuffah, located deep in south Lebanon.
According to a Hezbollah source, the strike targeted a two-story building owned by the group near the Lebanese-Syrian border, heightening tensions following a direct attack on Israel by Iran. The source confirmed to AFP that the strike did not result in any casualties.
Lebanonโs National News Agency also covered the event, reporting that an โenemy airstrikeโ had destroyed the building in al-Nabi Sheet.
Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, claimed responsibility for launching multiple rocket attacks at the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. These attacks were said to be in retaliation for Israeli strikes on Lebanese villages, which resulted in civilian casualties.
The actions by Hezbollah came in the aftermath of a significant Iranian drone and missile attack on Israel, which was itself a response to an April 1 airstrikeโwidely attributed to Israelโthat demolished an Iranian consulate in Damascus and killed seven members of Iranโs Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.
Since the October 7 assault by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on southern Israel, which sparked the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Hezbollah has engaged in almost daily exchanges of fire across the border with Israel.
According to an AFP tally, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 363 people in Lebanon, predominantly Hezbollah fighters but also at least 70 civilians. Meanwhile, Israel has reported the deaths of 10 soldiers and eight civilians, with tens of thousands of civilians having fled their homes on both sides of the border due to the escalating violence.
