Israel Claims Ground Troops Reach Litani River in Lebanon

On Tuesday, the Israeli military reported that its ground troops had advanced to parts of Lebanon’s Litani River, a key area in the context of a potential ceasefire. The military stated that its forces had reached the Wadi Slouqi region in southern Lebanon, where they clashed with Hezbollah fighters.

As part of the proposed ceasefire terms, Hezbollah would be required to reposition its forces north of the Litani River, which is about 30 kilometers from the Israeli border in certain areas. The Israeli military indicated that the clashes with Hezbollah occurred near the eastern section of the Litani, only a few kilometers from the border, marking one of the furthest points reached by Israeli forces in their ongoing ground operation, which has lasted nearly two months.

During the engagements, the Israeli military reported destroying rocket launchers and missiles, and engaging in intense close-quarters combat with Hezbollah militants. The forces also raided several Hezbollah positions, destroying a large number of launchers, rockets, missiles, and weapons storage sites hidden in the mountainous terrain.

This development came just hours before Israel’s security Cabinet was expected to approve a ceasefire agreement, which would bring an end to nearly 14 months of ongoing fighting.
