Iraq Pledges $40 Million for Lebanon and Gaza at Arab Summit

Iraq has pledged $40 million to support the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon, following the destruction caused by recent conflicts with Israel. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani during an Arab League summit held in Baghdad, where regional leaders gathered to address pressing political and humanitarian issues.

The financial package includes $20 million designated for rebuilding efforts in Gaza and another \$20 million allocated to Lebanon. Both regions have suffered substantial infrastructure damage, economic strain, and displacement of civilians due to recurring hostilities. Iraq’s contribution aims to assist in the restoration of basic services, facilities, and housing in these war-impacted areas.

Speaking to Arab leaders at the summit, the Iraqi prime minister emphasized the importance of a collective regional response to post-conflict recovery. He proposed the creation of an Arab reconstruction fund that would coordinate financial and technical support for countries emerging from crises. The fund is envisioned as a long-term solution to ensure stability and recovery in areas frequently affected by conflict.

The proposal comes at a time when reconstruction needs in Gaza remain urgent following extensive military operations, while Lebanon continues to face the consequences of political instability and periodic border tensions. Iraq’s involvement signals its intent to take on a more prominent role in regional recovery efforts, reinforcing diplomatic ties and humanitarian commitments.

The summit in Baghdad served as a platform not only for pledges of assistance but also for wider discussions on regional cooperation, economic development, and conflict resolution. The financial support and proposal for an Arab fund reflect growing recognition among member states that sustainable recovery in the region requires collaborative action beyond emergency aid.
