Iran Cheers Hezbollah’s ‘Strategic Strike’ on Israel

Iran’s foreign ministry stated on Monday that Israel “failed to anticipate the timing and location” of Hezbollah’s “targeted and calculated attack,” which led to the loss of Israel’s deterrent power. This comment was made in reference to Hezbollah’s retaliation on Sunday for the assassination of its military commander, Fouad Shukur.

The ministry further claimed that “the strategic balance has shifted, and the notion of an invincible army has become meaningless.” It went on to say, “The Israeli military, once considered a formidable force, has now lost its deterrent capability and must focus on defending against strategic strikes.”

Hezbollah announced on Sunday that it had struck an Israeli military intelligence facility near Tel Aviv with a barrage of rockets and drones as part of its response to Shukur’s killing.

In response, Israel reported that it conducted numerous preemptive strikes to prevent Hezbollah’s attack, labeling the group’s operation as a failure.
