Two years after reaching the Champions League finals and a disappointing early exit last season in the round of 16 against Atlético Madrid, Inter Milan is eager to reclaim its former European glory.
However, the start of this season has been less than stellar for the Italian giants, securing only two wins in their first five league matches against Atalanta and Lecce, with additional draws and a significant 1-2 loss in the derby against AC Milan. This past weekend saw them aiming for recovery against Udinese’s team.
On the European front, Inter managed a commendable 0-0 draw at Manchester City on the first matchday, primarily playing defensively.
Red Star Belgrade, despite not being a typical favorite in the Champions League, remains a formidable opponent, especially at its home ground known for its intense atmosphere. The team has a history of one Champions League victory, more than several current competitors. Nevertheless, they began their campaign with a 1-2 home defeat to a strong Benfica side. Inter Milan will miss Canadian player Buchanan due to injury, but Arnautovic and Dimarco, who were out in their first Champions League game, have rejoined the squad. Given Red Star Belgrade’s record of scoring in top-flight away games and Inter’s history of high-scoring Champions League matches, the game is likely to see several goals. Expect a tightly contested match but with Crvena zvezda possibly edging out Inter Milan with a score of 2-1.
