Hezbollah announced that it had fired several rockets at Israeli army positions in the Golan Heights on Tuesday, as a direct response to Israeli strikes in eastern Lebanon the day before.
The group stated that it targeted two Israeli military sites in the occupied Golan Heights in retaliation for Israeli attacks on the Bekaa Valley, which reportedly hit Hezbollah’s weapons storage facilities in the region.
The Israeli military confirmed that approximately 55 projectiles had been launched from Lebanon, with some being intercepted and others landing in open areas, causing no injuries but igniting fires. The military also reported striking back at one of the launch sites used in the attack.
This recent exchange follows an Israeli operation inside eastern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah’s armaments, which itself was a response to an earlier attack from Hezbollah that resulted in the death of an Israeli soldier—the latest casualty in ongoing hostilities that have persisted for 10 months.
The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with 585 people killed in Lebanon, including many Hezbollah fighters and at least 128 civilians, as per an AFP report. On the Israeli side, the conflict has claimed the lives of 23 soldiers and 26 civilians.
Tensions have been particularly high following promises of retaliation from Hezbollah and Iran after an Israeli strike in Beirut last month killed a senior Hezbollah leader, Fouad Shukur. This incident was followed by another attack in Tehran, attributed to Israel, which killed the Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.
