Hezbollah launched coordinated rocket and drone attacks on multiple Israeli military bases and positions on Thursday, following the death of one of its senior commanders in an Israeli airstrike.
In a statement, Hezbollah detailed that the assault involved “rockets and drones targeting six military barracks and sites” while also deploying “squadrons of explosive-laden drones” against three additional Israeli bases. These attacks were described as part of their response to the assassination of commander Taleb Abdallah on Tuesday.
Additionally, Hezbollah struck the al-Raheb post in northern Israel earlier on Thursday. In retaliation, Israeli warplanes bombed the outskirts of Jdeidet Marjeyoun and Haris.
During a funeral ceremony for Taleb Sami Abdullah, who was killed in Tuesday’s airstrike, senior Hezbollah official Hashem Saffieddine stated, “Our response after the martyrdom of Abu Taleb will be to intensify our operations in severity, strength, quantity, and quality.”
On Wednesday, Hezbollah launched a significant rocket barrage into northern Israel as retaliation for Abdullah’s killing, escalating the conflict further.
Since the onset of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, Hezbollah and Israeli forces have exchanged fire almost daily. Hezbollah has indicated that it will cease hostilities only if a truce is declared in Gaza, raising concerns about a potential wider regional conflict.
Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon since October have resulted in over 400 deaths, primarily of Hezbollah fighters, but also include more than 70 civilians and non-combatants. On the Israeli side, the conflict has claimed the lives of 15 soldiers and 10 civilians since the war in Gaza began.
