HBO is set to take viewers back 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones with their upcoming series, *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, a prequel based on George R.R. Martin’s *Tales of Dunk and Egg*.
Ahead of the Season 2 finale of *House of the Dragon*, HBO released preview footage that gives fans their first look at *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight*.
The teaser introduces Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon V Targaryen, known as Dunk and Egg. The series chronicles the adventures of these two unlikely heroes navigating Westeros during a time when the Targaryens still rule the Iron Throne and the last dragon’s memory is still fresh.
Adapted from George R.R. Martin’s novellas *The Hedge Knight*, *The Sworn Sword*, and *The Mystery Knight*, the series is planned to run for three seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first season will feature six episodes and is set to premiere in 2025.
In the novellas, Dunk is depicted as a humble hedge knight, a wandering knight without a lord, who embodies the ideals of chivalry, honor, and loyalty. Raised in the slums of Flea Bottom in King’s Landing, Dunk’s life changes dramatically when he meets Egg. As they journey across Westeros, Egg learns the ways of knighthood from Dunk, who remains unaware that his young squire is actually Aegon Targaryen, the future King Aegon V.
