Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri recently had a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail in Beirut. During this meeting, Mikati expressed his hope that the upcoming February 14th anniversary of the assassination of Hariri’s father, former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, would serve as a moment of unity for the Lebanese people amid the country’s current challenges. To honor Hariri, Mikati hosted a lunch banquet.
Hariri returned to Beirut from the United Arab Emirates, as confirmed by his press office. He is staying at the Center House in anticipation of the 19th anniversary of his father’s assassination, which will be commemorated on February 14th, along with the remembrance of Rafik Hariri’s companions.
There are expectations that Hariri will also hold discussions with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan. According to reports from Nidaa al-Watan newspaper, Berri is looking to facilitate a meeting between Hariri and former PSP leader Walid Jumblat.
Mikati’s associates have noted Hariri’s return to Beirut as positive, and it has been reported that Hariri has been invited to Moscow for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
