A senior Hamas representative has confirmed that a delegation of high-ranking officials from the group is scheduled to travel to Cairo on Saturday for negotiations with Egyptian mediators aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza. The talks are expected to be led by Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’s chief negotiator.
According to the official, who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media, the group hopes the meeting will produce concrete steps toward halting hostilities, ending military operations, and securing a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.
Despite recent media reports suggesting that Egypt and Israel had exchanged drafts of a proposed ceasefire and hostage release agreement, the Hamas official stated that no new formal proposal has been received by the group. Nevertheless, he noted that lines of communication with mediators remain active.
The official also accused Israel of continuing its military operations in Gaza, despite the ongoing mediation efforts. The situation remains fluid as regional actors push for a breakthrough to end the months-long conflict.
