Greece vs England Prediction: 14/11/2024

Greece, despite missing out on last summer’s Euro in Germany, is well-positioned to advance to the top tier of the Nations League. The Greek team has been impressive, winning their first four matches in the competition. They began in September with solid performances, defeating Finland 3-0 and Ireland 2-0. Their momentum continued last month with a surprising 2-1 victory over England at Wembley, followed by another 2-0 win against Ireland, placing them at the top of the group standings.

England, which reached the Euro finals for the second consecutive time in July but still has not secured a major international title in nearly 60 years, finds itself playing in League B of the Nations League. Currently three points behind Greece, the Three Lions are not on track to return to the top level. While they started the campaign in September with wins against Ireland (2-0) and Finland (2-0), they stumbled in a 2-1 loss to Greece last month before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Finland. Thomas Tuchel has since taken over as England’s manager.

For Greece, coach Gustavo Poyet has made only minor adjustments from last month’s squad, with Bouchalakis and Chatzigiovanis unavailable due to injuries. Key players include goalkeeper Vlachodimos, defenders Tsimikas, Chatzidiakos, Vavropanos, and Giannoulis, midfielders Bakasetas, Mantalos, and Pelkas, as well as forwards Masouras, Pavlidis, Tzolis, and Ioannidis, who has already scored three goals in the competition.

On the England side, Tuchel’s debut is marked by the absence of defenders Stones and Maguire, who are injured, along with young midfielder Mainoo. Marcus Rashford remains unselected, but goalkeeper Pickford, defenders Walker, Alexander-Arnold, and Guéhi, midfielders Rice, Foden, Bellingham, and Gallagher, and attackers Palmer, Grealish, Saka, and captain Harry Kane are all part of the lineup. Lille’s Angel Gomes also joins the squad.

 

Prediction

England’s recent record in the UEFA Nations League includes a difficult campaign in the top tier, where they earned only one point from seven matches. Greece, on the other hand, has shown strength with eight wins in their last 11 home games at this level. England may face a tough challenge in this debut match under new management.
