Girona vs Liverpool Prediction: 10/12/2024

Girona, who struggled at the start of the season due to significant player departures and a long injury list, has recently shown signs of improvement. The team managed three consecutive league wins, including a thrilling 4-3 victory over Leganés, a 0-1 win at Getafe before the international break, and a dominant 4-1 victory against newly-promoted Espanyol Barcelona, with all four goals coming in the first half.

Their winning run was halted by a 2-2 draw at Villarreal, leaving Girona in 7th place, just outside the European spots. Unfortunately, their Champions League campaign has been underwhelming, with losses to PSV (4-0) and Sturm Graz (1-0), placing them in 30th position with slim chances of advancing.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has been one of the best teams in Europe this season, despite the departure of Jürgen Klopp last summer. They currently lead the Premier League by 8 points over second-place Arsenal after a 2-0 victory against struggling Manchester City. Their only defeat came in mid-September against Nottingham Forest (0-1), but they’ve followed it up with 11 wins and 1 draw. In Europe, Liverpool has remained perfect, winning all 5 of their Champions League group-stage matches, including a 2-0 win over Real Madrid.

Although Girona’s injury list has cleared up recently, key players such as Venezuelan midfielder Yangel Herrera, long-term absentee Jastin, and 19-year-old Gabriel Misehouy remain sidelined. Ukrainian international Tsygankov and Asprilla have also faced setbacks.

However, Bryan Gil has been in excellent form, contributing 2 goals and 3 assists, while striker Miovski impressed with a brace against Espanyol. Van de Beek has also been active, scoring in both La Liga and the Champions League, and veteran Stuani remains effective with 4 goals and 1 assist. For Liverpool, the injury list is growing, with Bradley, Konaté, Tsimikas, Jota, Alisson, and Chiesa all missing games.

However, Alisson and Chiesa are nearing returns, and during Alisson’s absence, Kelleher stepped up, bolstering a solid defense led by Van Dijk. Alexander-Arnold, returning from injury, has reaffirmed his elite status as a full-back. Gravenberch has been a revelation in midfield, and Salah continues to be a standout, with 13 goals and 11 assists, challenging for MVP honors. Nunez, Gakpo, and Diaz add further strength to Liverpool’s attack.

Prediction

Liverpool has been in excellent form in their away Champions League matches, with 19 consecutive games featuring over 2.5 goals, including a loss in this fixture last season. On the other hand, Girona has only had one goalless draw in their last 20 league matches, meaning it’s highly likely that the scoring drought will be ended in this match.

Prediction: Girona 1 – 2 Liverpool
