Germany pledges assistance in rebuilding settlements in southern Israel

Germany has announced its intention to financially aid the rebuilding of areas in southern Israel that were devastated in the attack by Hamas on October 7.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during his visit to Kibbutz Beeri on Monday, committed to providing 7 million euros (equivalent to about $7.6 million) in 2024. This funding, as reported by the German news agency dpa, will go towards the reconstruction of a cultural center and a senior citizens’ meeting center in the kibbutz.

Acknowledging the early stage for reconstruction plans, Steinmeier noted that many residents, currently displaced within Israel, are already contemplating their return to Beeri. He emphasized the significance of Beeri and similar kibbutzim, stating that they deserve to be not just a part of Israeli history but also a key aspect of its future.
