Gemayel: Ready for Talks with Hezbollah on All Issues

Sami Gemayel, the leader of the Kataeb Party, has accused Hezbollah of trying to legitimize its arms through strategic political alliances and the support of a compliant president. In an interview on LBCI, Gemayel stated his willingness to engage in discussions with Hezbollah, but only under certain conditions. He specified that these talks could take place within institutional frameworks if Hezbollah agrees to submit to the authority of the state and constitution and embraces the principle of equality.

Gemayel emphasized that solutions like federalism, decentralization, or system improvements are insufficient to address the core issues of sovereignty and governance in the country, particularly in the face of Hezbollahโ€™s armed influence and the challenge of managing Lebanonโ€™s diverse population.

He pointed out that the issue of Hezbollahโ€™s weaponry and national sovereignty should be treated as separate from the challenges of diversity management and governance.

Regarding the ongoing impasse in the presidential election, Gemayel suggested that a resolution could be reached swiftly, within 48 hours, once thereโ€™s an end to the efforts to enforce a particular candidate. He expressed openness to dialogue with Hezbollah, provided they show a willingness to compromise and demonstrate good faith, particularly concerning the consideration of a third candidate for the presidency.
