Kataeb Party leader, MP Sami Gemayel, has emphasized the urgent need to deactivate the southern front to prioritize Lebanon’s domestic needs, including its economy, healthcare, and education systems. Speaking to a visiting delegation from Zahle in Bikfaya, Gemayel highlighted that after the ongoing conflict ends, regardless of the outcome, it will be crucial for Lebanese society to engage in open discussions to address all existing problems collaboratively, ensuring no one is excluded or marginalized.
Gemayel also voiced his concerns to the international community about the current negotiation dynamics. He criticized the talks for being overly focused on Hezbollah and Israel, to the detriment of broader Lebanese interests. He argued for a more inclusive discussion framework that genuinely reflects the Lebanese populace’s aspirations.
Furthermore, he pointed out the inadequacies of U.N. Resolution 1701, which aims to keep Lebanon out of war, arguing that it is insufficient by itself. He stressed the necessity of implementing Resolution 1559 as well, which calls for the disarmament of militias, to ensure comprehensive peace and stability in the region.
