Kataeb leader and Lebanese MP Sami Gemayel has strongly criticized Hezbollah, claiming that the group’s actions have led to the destruction of southern Lebanon in just ten days of Israeli airstrikes. Gemayel called for Hezbollah to be disarmed, arguing that the group ceased to be a Lebanese “resistance” movement when it intervened in the Syrian conflict in support of President Bashar al-Assad.
In an interview with MTV, Gemayel accused Hezbollah of acting as an agent for Iran, sacrificing Lebanon’s future and its youth for Iranian interests. He highlighted the impact of Hezbollah’s involvement, which he said has caused harm to the Lebanese people, the Shiite community, and the national economy.
Gemayel also expressed dissatisfaction with the ceasefire agreement, alleging that it was driven by Israeli and Iranian interests, with Lebanese factions playing merely the role of intermediaries. According to Gemayel, while the ceasefire offered relief to both sides, it allowed Israel’s military to regroup and gave Hezbollah an opportunity to claim success despite Israel’s technological and military superiority.
Despite significant losses, including the death of key Hezbollah leaders like Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and severe disruption of its communication networks, Hezbollah fighters have continued to resist. They have slowed Israel’s military advances and launched daily missile, rocket, and drone strikes across the border, showing considerable resilience on the ground.
