Samir Geagea, the head of the Lebanese Forces, has criticized Hezbollah for allegedly wanting to control Lebanon’s presidency and government in exchange for removing their arms from the border area with Israel. In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Geagea dismissed these demands as unrealistic and unacceptable, arguing that Lebanon’s sovereignty cannot be compromised through such deals.
Geagea firmly stated that Hezbollah has no intention of leaving the southern region of Lebanon, accusing the group of misleading the Americans into believing otherwise. He further commented that any thoughts of negotiating the presidency in exchange for border security are mere fantasy.
He reiterated his stance against allowing a Hezbollah-aligned president, underlining the determination of his opposition to prevent such an outcome. While acknowledging the failure to disarm Hezbollah, Geagea took pride in thwarting their ambitions to secure the presidency.
