Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has accused Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri of revealing his true intentions and asserted that Lebanon should not have a โsupreme guide.โ In an interview with the al-Markazia news agency, Geagea questioned the constitutional basis for Berriโs actions, particularly his practice of convening dialogue tables among parliamentary blocs before presidential elections.
Geagea argued that Berri is attempting to establish new, unofficial constitutional norms, which he opposes. Instead, Geagea supports direct contacts and consultations among parliamentary blocs. He emphasized that Lebanon cannot afford to have a figure with supreme authority.
When asked about Berriโs claim that Geageaโs refusal to engage in dialogue is a push towards federalism, Geagea dismissed the accusation as baseless. He countered by suggesting that the true partitioning of Lebanon is being carried out by the โAxis of Defiance,โ which he implied includes Hezbollah and its allies. Geagea pointed out that this group has set up alternative military and security forces, controls state institutions, and makes unilateral decisions about war, despite the views of the Lebanese government and its people.
