A Gaza hospital reported on Sunday that an Israeli air strike on a house in a refugee camp killed at least 20 people.
“We received 20 fatalities and several wounded after an Israeli air strike targeted a house belonging to the Hassan family in Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza,” stated Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
Witnesses indicated that the strike took place around 3:00 am local time. The Israeli army mentioned they are investigating the report.
The Palestinian official news agency, Wafa, reported that several children were among the injured, and rescuers are searching for people trapped under the debris.
Heavy battles and significant Israeli bombardments have been occurring in the central Nuseirat camp since early May when the military began a “targeted” operation focusing on Rafah in the south.
Additionally, clashes between Palestinian militants and Israeli troops have continued for days in the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza.
Witnesses noted that several other homes were hit by air strikes during the night throughout Gaza, and that air strikes and artillery shelling also affected parts of Rafah.
The Israeli military reported that two more soldiers were killed in Gaza the previous day. So far, 282 soldiers have lost their lives in the Gaza military campaign since the ground offensive began on October 27.
