Foreign Ministry Condemns Israeli-Blamed Iran Consulate Strike

Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry has expressed strong disapproval of the airstrike, widely believed to have been carried out by Israel, that destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals, including two Iranian generals.

The ministry highlighted that attacking diplomatic sites contravenes international norms and the Vienna Convention, which protects diplomatic entities. Leaders from Lebanon’s political sphere, including former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat and Marada leader Suleiman Franjieh, a candidate backed by Hezbollah for the presidency, have also criticized the strike for breaching international laws and diplomatic protections.

In response to the attack, both Iran and Hezbollah have issued warnings of retribution against Israel. Moreover, global powers such as China and Russia have also spoken out against the airstrikes.

The European Union expressed concern over the alleged Israeli action against the Iranian diplomatic mission and called for restraint from all parties to avoid further regional tensions.

“The escalation of conflict benefits no one, and restraint is crucial in this already tense regional atmosphere,” EU spokesperson Peter Stano stated, underscoring the importance of preventing any further escalation in the region.
