Florida Mall Shooting: 2 Dead, 7 Injured in US

In a tragic incident at a crowded shopping center in Florida, two individuals were killed and seven were injured during a shooting.

The incident unfolded at the Martini Bar inside the CityPlace Doral complex early on Saturday morning (April 6), when a dispute escalated, resulting in a security guard attempting to intervene and being fatally shot by the perpetrator. The gunman was subsequently killed in a shootout with police, according to information from Miami-Dade detective Alvaro Zabaleta, as reported by the Guardian.

The gunfire also wounded six bystanders, consisting of five men and one woman, in addition to a police officer who sustained a leg injury, Zabaleta detailed.

Zabaleta conveyed in a news conference that police officers present at the scene promptly engaged, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

He lamented the loss of the security guard, who was killed while performing his duties, and extended condolences to the guard’s family.

The injured police officer managed to apply a tourniquet to his wound and has since been released from the hospital, as per CBS News. The community is in shock over the violent outbreak.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the shooter, with authorities stating that they are not currently looking for any suspects. Chief of Police Edwin Lopez praised the swift action and bravery of the responding City of Doral police officers for preventing further harm.

The shooting that involved police officers is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, while the homicide aspect is being looked into by the Miami-Dade police. Although no suspects are being sought, several witnesses have been taken into custody for questioning.
