Faroe Islands vs Armenia Prediction: 10/10/2024

The Faroe Islands have shown some improvement in recent years, managing to avoid last place in their qualifying groups for major international tournaments. Despite this progress, they were not present at the last European Championships and have only managed one win in the past two years, a convincing 4-0 victory over the weaker team of Liechtenstein last March. In their recent matches, they drew 1-1 with North Macedonia but suffered a 1-0 defeat to Latvia in September. Meanwhile, Armenia has also struggled to make a significant impact on the international stage.

Armenia finished fourth in their last European Championship qualifying group, coming in behind Turkey, Croatia, and Wales, and only ahead of Latvia. They did manage a victory over Kazakhstan in a friendly this past June, winning 2-1, and kicked off their Nations League campaign with a 4-1 win against Latvia, although they were later beaten 2-0 by North Macedonia.

The Faroe Islands team primarily consists of players from their local league and lower divisions in Scandinavia. Notable exceptions include Andrias Edmundsson, who plays for Wisla Plock, and his brother Jóan Símun Edmundsson, a forward for Shkupi in North Macedonia, who has scored 8 goals in 90 appearances. However, Klaemint Olsen is the nation’s top scorer, with 10 goals in 68 caps. The Armenian squad also largely comprises domestically-based players, with some exceptions who play abroad, such as captain Haroyan in China, defenders Arutyunyan (Krasnodar) and Tiknizyan (Lokomotiv Moscow), midfielders Spertsyan (Krasnodar), Zelarayan (Al-Fateh), and Shaghoyan (Debrecen). The top scorer for Armenia is Bichakhchyan, with 5 goals in 36 caps, followed closely by young Grant-Leon Ranos of Borussia Mönchengladbach, with 4 goals in 13 caps.

Prediction

The Faroe Islands tend not to feature in high-scoring games, as evidenced by 16 of their last 19 matches producing no more than two goals. Similarly, seven of Armenia’s last nine away games have also seen fewer than 2.5 goals scored. It’s unlikely that this pattern will change, and a low-scoring game is anticipated when these teams meet next.

Prediction: Faroe Islands 0 : 0 Armenia
