Two explosions were reported near Iran’s Fordo nuclear site, an underground facility central to the country’s uranium enrichment efforts. According to Iranian media outlets aligned with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the blasts occurred in the vicinity of the highly fortified complex, located hundreds of meters below the surface. The reported strikes targeted two specific locations near the installation. Concurrently, explosions were also detected in Iran’s capital, Tehran, and at the nuclear facility in Isfahan.
These developments follow a major Israeli offensive launched on June 13, in which Israel carried out coordinated airstrikes across Iran targeting nuclear and military infrastructure. The operation resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian commanders, including key figures associated with Iran’s strategic defense and nuclear efforts.
In the aftermath of the strikes, Iran vowed a decisive response. Iranian leadership condemned the attacks as acts of aggression and asserted that they would dictate the course of events that would follow. The country’s military officials issued statements promising retaliation and warning of severe consequences for Israel.
Shortly after Iran’s vow of retaliation, Israeli authorities confirmed that more than 100 drones had been launched from Iranian territory. Israel reported that its defense systems, along with support from regional partners, were actively engaging and intercepting the drones outside of Israeli airspace.
The Fordo facility, a critical part of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, has long been at the center of international concerns due to its fortified nature and capacity to enrich uranium to high levels. The Isfahan nuclear site, also reported to have been targeted, is associated with uranium conversion and fuel manufacturing.
This latest escalation represents a significant intensification of hostilities between the two long-standing regional adversaries, with nuclear infrastructure now a direct target of military operations. The situation remains fluid as both sides assess damage and prepare for possible further exchanges.
